Andre Irving was traveling northbound on State Road 9G in Columbia County around 5:08 a.m. when for some unknown reason he crossed the center line and crossed the roadway, struck a guardrail, went down an embankment and hit a tree, said Columbia County Sheriff David Bartlett.

Irving, who was traveling alone, was entrapped in the 2005 Ford Five Hundred and had to be extricated from the vehicle by Greenport and Germantown fire and rescue personnel, the Sheriff said.

Irving was transported to Albany Medical Center by Greenport Rescue Squad for serious head injuries.

The investigation is continuing, Bartlett said.

Greenport Rescue Squad, Greenport Fire Department, and Germantown Fire Department assisted at the scene.
